The program for Thursday, February 14, 2008 is:
Business Meeting
Last Week's Program
Minot’s only 2008 Olympic hopeful Dagny Knutson, Connie Fiest and Rhonda (Dagny’s Mom) shared with us what it takes to be a winner. Dagny is a sophomore at Magic City Campus carrying a 4.0 GPA while simultaneous training several hours each day in order to compete in the Olympic swimming events. Her specialties include the 200m free style and 100 & 200 meter backstroke.
The completion will be conducted June 29 through July 6. The schedule of event will determine exactly which events she will compete in, although there will likely be several. Over 700 swimmers will be competing overall and but only the top 2 of each event will be chosen to compete on the Olympic Team. She is presently ranked 10th in the nation.
Questions brought out the actual sacrifices that a family make in order to support this sort of talent. While an athlete of her caliber might easily attract "sponsorship" that would immediately change her status to "Professional" making her ineligible for the Olympics. Consequently all the travel involved with the various regional and national competitions are borne by the family. Contributions, however, can be accepted and are most welcome. Contact any Club Officer for more information if you are interested in helping Dagny continue to advance Minot’s image throughout the world.

Weekly Contribution Program
Each week members of the Minot Sunrise Rotary bring a commercially procured item of food stuffs or donate a dollar to the weekly "food program". Roughly once a quarter the sponsors of one of our local food programs have been invited to receive these gifts. This long term program has proven very successful for our Club.
Several members have approached President Doug with the thought that our four legged friends need help to. For the next quarter or so, we have decided to accept donations for the Souris Valley Humane Society instead. Donations can include anything from their wish list which is located on their web site an included with the weekly meeting reminder. Many thanks to Nancy for bringing this project together and making it work!
