February’s business meeting:

  • We will continue to collect animal shelter items through March 13th at which time we switch back to our food program.
  • It’s time to start planning on attending the District Conference in Dickinson. In order to go as a Club delegate, you will need to sign up (or let Penny know that you are attending). The deadline is in early April and we understand that both hotels are already closing off their reservations.
  • We have received correspondence concerning Books for Babies. They are soliciting a small dollar donation which is would provide a key element to their overall program. This subject was deferred to the Board of Directors.
  • It’s time for Club elections. Anyone interested in expanding their Club Service can make it known to any current Club Officer. The Board of Directors will act as a nominating committee and propose a slate at the next meeting. The floor will remain open for additional nominations for one week. If an election is needed, it will occur February 28 before the program.

THE SECRETARIAT

Many Rotarians consider the Secretariat simply another name for the RI World Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois. Actually, it is much more. While it does include the world headquarters, the Secretariat encompasses more than 600 individuals working to make Rotary International run smoothly and effectively. The secretariat also includes seven RI International Offices (formerly called Service Centers) around the world, all of the staff serving in those offices, as well as all staff assigned to the Rotary Foundation. Its sole purpose is to serve the clubs, districts, and administrative officers of Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation. RI World Headquarters, in a building called “One Rotary Center” in Evanston, is the headquarters of the secretariat.
