The program for Thursday, March 13, 2008 is:

Giulia Piana - Foreign Exchange Student
Giulia is our new Rotary Club of Minot Exchange Student from Santa Maria Navarrese, Italy.
She is 17 years old and attends magic City Campus where she is enrolled in Senior High Classes although, technically, she would be a junior at home. That is because there are 13 grades where she comes from. That is just one of the differences she finds between the schools. In Sardania (the Island on which she lives) the students stay in the classroom and the teachers change. Also, she finds the level of technology to be far higher here.
Her city in is not very big, only 1,600 and is located on the eastern coast of the island. She admitted it was only a 5 minute walk to the beach and, during her time off, it is a very frequent destination for her and her friends. It's likely a good thing the beach is so close too, since a teenager can not get their driver's license until they turn 18!
The accepted daily routine in Italy appears to be considerable different than here in the US. Retail shops are open between 8 to 12 am and 4:30 to 8 pm making for a very leisurely lunch! Meal times vary just a little bit too. Giulia told us she has breakfast around 7 am, lunch after school (around 2 pm) and dinner about 9 pm.
It’s always a pleasure to get to know the students that have chosen to participate in Rotary International’s Foreign Exchange Program!

Just a quick note from a Rotarian half the world away:
Dear Rotarians,
RI has been quick to harness the power and reach of the latest fad on the net i.e, YouTube. The link is
pasted below in my mail. The number of videos uploaded as of now are small in number but there is this amazing video on rain water harvesting which is worth watching. Rotary International on YouTube.
