Last weeks Program
by: Tom DeVilbiss

Last week was a very busy meeting; first Penny’s Rotary Moment reminding us that November is Foundation month. (Every Rotarian - Every Year) followed by the induction of Jay Klabunde before the speaker was introduced. Even then we were in for a surprise. Libby of the Office of International Programs invited each of us to participate in the MSU International Friendship Program which holds its first meeting November 30th.

Our speaker, Marv Semrau – MSU’s Vice President for Advancement - was more than happy to allow Libby all the time she needed. As it turns out, that is just one of the executive roles he plays. Others include the Development Foundation, the Alumni Association, Fund Raising and Marketing. He also shared with us what is “new on campus” including the “Beaver Dam” in the Student Union, a mentor program, mandatory freshman on campus housing and a novel Enrollment Services HOTLINE. The hotline is novel in that it is answered by the second ring by a person! How’s that for North Dakota charm?

The Object of Rotary

... is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
